Peter is available for portrait and other commissions in Sydney, Australia and worldwide and is willing to paint any subject . He is happy to paint still lifes with family heirlooms, religious subjects, history paintings, deceased persons from photographs and to paint any idea, fantasy or nightmare in collaboration with the person commissioning the work. For example, if you wanted to be painted as a subject in a Greek Myth, a king, a queen, a peasant, a saint, or have your own spiritual vision captured on canvas, it can be arranged.
Portraits can be painted from life, from photographs or a combination of both. We can employ any of these methods but with today’s time constraints most people prefer to just sit for the one or two photo shoots taking 2-3 hours and then send me back to the studio to do the work.
Prior to the photo shoot I ask the subject to think about how they would like to be portrayed. This includes the size of the painting, body position (eg standing, sitting), hand positions, clothing etc.
At the photo shoot we try different clothing, postures, lighting and background and choose the images the sitter and their family think look the best and most truly show the usual “look” of the subject. A short video is also taken to help capture the personality of the sitter.
The prices below are in Australian dollars and are for unframed, but fully finished, highest quality oil portraits with simple clothing and plain backgrounds. Complex backgrounds and intricate clothing will add to the cost.
Less detailed works attract a smaller fee: oil sketches, pencil, pastel and charcoal portraits require a shorter time and therefore cost less – prices range from $1,000 to $5,000.
For some overseas commissions, travel and accommodation expenses may attract an extra fee unless multiple commissions can be arranged at the time.
